THE MARIA PROJECT & THE CENTER AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DOCUMENT THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE MOVEMENT
“A Day of Conversations Regarding Domestic Abuse:  Recordings and Reverberations”.

The Maria Project and Center Against Domestic Violence commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month by releasing the first two interviews from The Recording Project. In The Recording Project, The Maria Project Founder Marcella Goheen interviewed a dozen domestic violence advocates to address the complexity and pervasiveness of domestic abuse and intergenerational trauma surrounding domestic violence.

The Recording Project, curated by The Maria Project, releases recordings with the Center’s CEO, Judith Kahan, and Luis Matos, Director of Outreach at Center Against Domestic Violence. This recorded conversation explores the reverberation of domestic violence through the batterers perspective and the necessary change communities need to make in order to effect transformation and hope for battered families.

“…Domestic Violence is multi-generational…there are many cultural issues amidst the domestic violence issue – there are many different concepts of family…although we are all working cooperatively, there is no easy answer for domestic violence…” Judith Kahan, The Recording Project, Curated by The Maria Project

Ms. Kahan’s interview paints a vivid picture of the early domestic violence service field in New York State; and how providers cooperate today to serve more domestic violence survivors.
